Happy Haiku Thursday! But first, a video entry for the Dance Off Giveaway, courtesy of Frankie and Bennett! Their mama was Chewy’s foster mom, and a great dog mom all around.
Wasn’t that pawsome?! Thank you, Taylor, for your Dance Off entry! Now the rest of y’all, get crackin’! The deadline is next Tuesday! Your dog gets to choose whichever treat it likes from the Jones website if it wins!
On to Haiku. Haiku holds a special place in my heart. Allow me to explain why? In Haiku?
I don’t “get” poems
They’re mystical and don’t make
Any kind of sense
Okay, so maybe that doesn’t explain it very well. Poetry is elusive for me. There’s always some hidden meaning. So unless it’s a limerick (Oz the Terrier writes the BEST limericks!) or Haiku, I’m probably not going to read it. The exceptions are Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky. They rock the cat box. Lookit:
Kitty Caught a Caterpillar – (from RIDE A PURPLE PELICAN)
Kitty caught a caterpillar,
Kitty caught a snail,
Kitty caught a turtle
By its tiny turtle tail,
Kitty caught a cricket
With a sticky bit of thread,
She tried to catch a bumblebee,
The bee caught her instead.
That was Jack Prelutsky. And y’know what? I didn’t understand that AT ALL. Okay, the kitty came away with a nasty owie in the end. She’d best be glad she was only caught by a bee, and not by one of these:

Lifting off with prey
Majestic hawk takes flight
Off to a tree top

So. That was fun. My question is, do you write haiku? I’d love to see some in the comments. It’s simple, which is why I like it. The form is 5/7/5. Five syllables in the firs line, seven in the second, five in the third. Then some blah blah blah about nature, but who pays attention to that?! Here, I’ll make up another one:
Turn on your laptop
Go to Jones Natural Chews
Get your dog to dance
See how easy that is? Let’s try it again.
Seriously, you
And make your dog smile
Once I get warmed up, there’s no stopping me. It’s like some kind of game, writing the Haiku. Which means you’d best fill in the comments with your own, or I’ll go nuts and write Haiku all day. Like this:
Chewy, glad I’m home,
Sits on my shoulder and sighs,
“Don’t leave again, mom”
Yeah. He’s happy I’m home. And so am I.

Speaking of which, I have a couple of way cool product reviews coming up next week. I’ll try and do each in a separate post, in fairness to the product. I only chose stuff that I really liked.
Now! Go to Jones Natural Chews and listen to the jingle! Then record your dog dancing to it! Then, for Pete’s sake, give your dog a treat. And THEN send me the video! I like a YouTube link, and would really LOVE if it was on your own blog. Dancing dogs – c’mon, that’s a lot of fun!
Until I write again …
Flea
