Pork Skin and Bully Sticks
What’s not to love? Pork skin and bully sticks sound like the human equivalent of pork rinds and Slim Jims, don’t they? Makes my mouth water at eight in the morning.
Okay, so pork rinds and Slim Jims may not be your thing, but I can almost guarantee that your dog would LOVE this dog equivalent of it! Check it out:
My dogs went nuts for the Bully N Bacon Twist from Jones Natural Chews. It comes in a two-pack, two bully sticks coiled into tight springs, wrapped in pork skin and baked. All four of my dogs were sitting at attention when I opened the package, but only two got the treats. Don’t worry – I had plenty of Jones Natural Chews on hand for the other two. There was no complaining. Well, until Chewy took a break from gnawing on his pork skin and bully sticks and Flash devoured it. Hurt feelings abounded. But since Flash has 50 pounds on Chewy and is a grouchy old man of a dog, that didn’t last long.
And I’ll be honest – I offered one to Gadget before giving it to Flash. He refused it. His mouth is so tiny. Typically Gadget only gets small pieces of taffies and sausages, or things like the Lamb Lung Puffs or Woofers, which crumble easily. He knows his food and treat limitations, poor dear.
We’re pretty sure he’s part Chihuahua. That would explain his mouth. Loud, but tiny.
Great Gnawing Treats
The Bully N Bacon Twists – our pork skin and bully sticks for dogs – are fantastic as gnawing treats for most sized dogs. Good for teeth and gums. I say most, because my little Gadget can’t get his wee mouth around it. And the giant breeds would just eat the Bully N Bacon Twists. That’s not a problem. That’s just yummy. It just means it won’t make a good dental chew for a giant breed is all. An amazing treat, yes.
For perspective, it probably would have taken Chewy days, gnawing for ten minutes a day, to consume the Bully N Bacon Twist. Chewy is a 13 pound Affenpinscher mix. It took Flash, my 60 pound Australian Shepherd mix, about ten minutes to consume the treat. I’m going with the Twist still being good for Flash’s teeth and gums, since it wasn’t quick and easy to consume, as well as being yummy in his tummy. He did steal the other one, after all.
