Y’all know I love my bar soap. I’ve reviewed Aubrey’s Goodies Unlimited soap, and Chubbs Bars dog shampoo, which I use on my own hair. But I feel like I’m always looking for new bar soap for the shower. Something hydrating, given my thyroid and dry skin. So when I saw Carma Poodale’s Sissy Sarah touting her friend’s all natural soap – well. A soap review was born in that moment.
Allow me to introduce you to A Blessed Mess. I interviewed the creator, Heidi, before ordering her soap. I don’t just order anyone’s soap anymore. Heidi says she’s a hippy. She keeps bees and chickens. She only uses essential oils and natural ingredients like coconut oil in her soaps. And she’s been making and selling the soap locally for years, so she has it dialed in. This isn’t something she decided to do to ride the natural wave that’s crashing ashore at the moment. It’s her life.
I still needed convincing. All natural is a beautiful thing. Jones Natural Chews are all natural, right? I can get behind that for the unwashed masses, but for me? It has to be hydrating. And not perfume-y. Heidi said A Blessed Mess had just the soap for me. Hippy Hydration. With a Patchouli scent. Mmmmmmm. And just the soap for Hunny, one of her best sellers – Sensual Soap. It’s a mint chocolate soap which smells like an Andes mint.
Oh man. Not only did Heidi send me the four bars I ordered (two of each), she sent me an anti-aging bar (a best seller) and a couple of lip glosses. She hadn’t been selling anywhere but locally, so I was her first PayPal order and helped her get that up and running. In the entire order, the Jasmine Chai Tea lip balm is probably my favorite scent. I’ll probably order her Jasmine Chai Tea soap next. What an amazing smell!
But am I happy with the soap? This wouldn’t be a soap review if I didn’t tell you that. Does it hydrate? Am I still itchy, or does it clean and soothe my skin? First, it lathers like crazy. I’ve been using an Amish lye soap the last couple of months and didn’t realize how much I missed a nice lather. Second, yes, the soap hydrates. I feel clean and soft after a shower. Only because I’ve been paying attention. But I’m not itching, and I’ve been using the Hippy Hydration for a week. Do I love the scent? Yes.
Hunny is another matter. I’m hard to please when it comes to a bar soap. Hunny says he doesn’t care, that it’s just soap, but he’ll pick it apart just like I will. I usually have to ask first, to find out. And most of the time he says, “Please don’t buy that again.” This time Hunny volunteered. I got, “I love that new soap. It smells wonderful.” He’s a big mint fan. And “You smell like your new soap. I like that smell.”
So A Blessed Mess is a keeper. I’ll definitely be ordering from Heidi again. Thank you, Sissy Sarah, for the recommendation!
As for the Chubbs Bars, well, I’ll still be using that for my hair. In fact, I’ll be using Chubbs on all four of my dogs this weekend, too. Right before I give them each a Steer Stick for being such good dogs during their baths. 😉
Until I write again …
